About the exposition

From the 1st to the 18th of September 2022, the exhibition "Sit Back, Relax & Enjoy the Apocalypse" welcomed visitors for three weeks in the LaVallée exhibition halls, located in the heart of Brussels. Seppe De Roo, a multidisciplinary visual artist born in 1994, served as the curator. Attracting over 3000 visitors in just three weeks, the event was a resounding success.

The exhibition delved into society's perceptions of an ending civilization and the symbolism behind this idea. Throughout history, mankind has conceived and portrayed the end of times, with apocalyptic narratives capturing the contemporary human imagination and fueling vivid visions of humanity's future.

Fourteen young artists, including internationally renowned talents and up-and-coming figures from Brussels and Belgium, were selected to present their distinctive takes on the apocalyptic theme. They explored concepts related to science, religion, and existential questions through various media, from painting to cutting-edge technology.

The exhibition not only concentrated on the perseverance of humanity but also on the enduring spirit of young artists. Sharing their visions of mankind's future was crucial, as they would influence and mold the world of tomorrow.

In conjunction with the exhibition, a 4-week residency was provided for all participating artists at LaVallée's exhibition spaces. Additionally, numerous events were organized, such as DJ sets, music performances, art performances, three performance platforms in collaboration with Tictac Art Centre and Ne Mosquito Pas, and free guided tours led by Seppe De Roo for young people in Molenbeek, in partnership with organizations like Arts&Public and Foyer vzw. Arts&Public engaged local youth in a 3D world creation workshop. Moreover, the exhibition was featured in the OFF-program of Brussels Gallery Weekend.

The exposition, organized by Piëdestal vzw / asbl, received support from ‘l’Image de Bruxelles’ - Cabinet Rudi Vervoort and Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles - Commission Arts Plastiques.
