fourteen artists on the end of the world — sonic sculpture, painting, textile, installation and photography converge around a single question: what does humanity imagine for itself?
from the 1st to the 18th of september 2022, 'sit back, relax & enjoy the apocalypse' drew over 3000 visitors to the LaVallée halls in brussels — fourteen young international artists, a 4-week residency, three weeks of shared time with a city.
throughout history, mankind has imagined its own ending. apocalyptic narratives have always captured the human imagination — vivid, unstoppable, rich with symbol. the exhibition asked what those visions look like now, from inside them. science, religion, existential drift, the persistence of the body, the persistence of beauty — fourteen distinct answers, through painting, sonic sculpture, textile, photography, drawing and installation.
the exhibition was the first curated group exhibition by seppe de roo, organised by piëdestal vzw/asbl in collaboration with LaVallée, Foyer vzw, Tictac Art Centre vzw, Arts&Public vzw, Ne Mosquito Pas and Queef vzw. a 4-week residency was provided for all participating artists. alongside the exhibition: DJ sets, music performances, three performance platforms with Tictac Art Centre and Ne Mosquito Pas, free guided tours for youth in Molenbeek, and a 3D world-creation workshop by Arts&Public.
the exposition received support from L'Image de Bruxelles — Cabinet Rudi Vervoort and Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles — Commission Arts Plastiques, and was featured in the OFF-program of Brussels Gallery Weekend.

& enjoy the apocalypse
fourteen artists. three weeks. over 3000 visitors. a meditation on endings and the world that survives them.
sonic entities'
robotic creatures that emit frequencies beyond the human range. edge's sculptures inhabit the space between organism and machine, between the living and what outlasts it.
three practices converging on a single question — what does the body hold when everything else falls away.
& sonic space
a metal zeppelin suspended on helium, a room filled with non-human frequencies — two works that refuse gravity, in different ways.
apocalypse
the end of the world at human scale — in pigment, in stillness, in a figure that stands and does not look away.
& form
works that think through material — the weight of cloth, the pressure of pigment, the shape of something irreversible.
is not the end
mankind has always imagined its own ending. these fourteen artists imagined what survives.
